Sally Mair - Loving life

Stuff!

Why do I have so much stuff and what on earth am I going to do with it all. I can't bear to give it all away as some of it means a lot and has memories attached. I've another two display cabinets - not to mention the sideboards and China cupboards!
There is stuff from parents, aunts, grand and great grand parents. That thumbnail alone has, amongst others, my grandfather's leather travelling inkwell with a purple haired troll on it, a ceramic sparrow from my mum's collection and a cast iron rocking musician from my grandmother's mantle piece. There's a lump of lava from Vesuvius with a penny in it, a powder pot of my grandmother's with a shell baby pincushion in it...... There are gifts from friends and from my travels not to mention the things I bought because I fell in love with them or just because they caught my eye.
There's a musical box in here which I bought at Cramond Jumble sale when I was about 10. I was thrilled when a couple of years later I saw the same thing in the museum of childhood.
I wish I still had illustrated copies of the works of Goethe I was given by my tawny owl at brownies who became a friend. She gave me them when she was moving house when I was about 12. They were in German, and in gothic script, so I couldn't read them but I knew they were special.
I'm trying really hard not to acquire more, but it's not easy. Part of the problem of having a good eye and knowing the value, or at least recognising those things which are likely to have a value. I know where I got most things from and the story behind them.
Sunday today and a busy day, lots of duties, but I enjoyed doing them and enjoyed a good sing too.
Ali and Josie were here when I got home, although Josie was actually asleep. Ali had been catching up with her dad. Katy and the girls came round for dinner so I made an enormous lasagne which Eilidh pronounced was one of the best ever. That's a compliment indeed, those two are not afraid to pronounce food disgusting. We didn't tell them till after they'd finished that it had mushrooms in it!
Tired this evening, so a bath and early night. I've been getting dreadful cramp in my thighs in the middle of the night recently so I've upped my intake of bananas. It seemed to work yesterday so fingers crossed for tonight too.
Have a good week everyone. The last week of April already.
