The East Somerset Railway is a very short railway, under 3 miles. It's also fairly level along the section that can be seen from the side of the track - the steepest gradient is at the far end of the line where there's no footpath. Consequently, there's never much steam or smoke to be seen. Here the engine is reversing to the points so that it can be attached to the front of the train to haul the next service. It's the only place where it's starting from stationary and working hard. A pity the engine is going backwards!
