Funicular at Lynmouth

When we visited Lynmouth last week I was very impressed by the funicular railway which links the harbour town with the cliff Town of Lynton. This Victorian invention opened in 1890 and scales the 500ft cliff on the principle of balance. At the top each car is filled with 700 gallons of water which then provides the weight to pull the other car up the cliff as it descends. The heritage railway is grade 2 listed, the UK's only fully water powered railway and is one of only three examples left in the world.
We also thoroughly enjoyed Lynton and the Valley of Rocks. You can see in extras why it is known as Little Switzerland, we had hills, rocks and goats! I've also added a photo of Lynmouth water front.
