Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Dropped Archie off at Elizabeth’s house this morning. Actually, I walked him down the road so that he’d had two walks by the time he got there. Yes, we’ve heard from him this evening - he’s had a lovely day of course, and will be realising about now that his luck’s IN - he hasn’t been returned to his mothers… He’s staying with Elizabeth!!

We also had a lovely day. A pleasant drive down to the Borders, though we left the (cold) sunshine of the Central Belt and came to mist and murk. No worries, we were meeting our pals in the MainStreet cafe/deli/restaurant again, where a splendid lunch was enjoyed, and our Kiwi pals were fair taken with all the dogs in the cafe (doesn’t happen in NZ!).

Onward another wee while to Denholm, a wee town that they’d picked and booked about a year ago. The pub is truly an amazing operation. They must have fed 100 people over lunch (there was a ‘Borders Study Tour’ bus parked outside).

We had drinks in busy bar in the afternoon, then a wee rest, which coincided with the Scotland/Italy rugby match, and happily, Scotland had their first win.

We’ve just had dinner, and what an event that was. Great staff, good service, HUGE menu, large servings. I had a beef pie with chips and veges. I KNEW I shouldn’t look at the dessert menu, but Murray was keen. I foolishly said,

‘If they’ve got bread and butter pudding, I won’t be able to resist…’

And there it was - bread and butter pudding, with custard. I am now trying to recover. Sheer Greed.

And breakfast is only a few hours away…
