I'll Swallow Your Soul!
My Dear Princess and Dear Fellow,
I was very excited for Evil Dead Rise. I have enjoyed all of the previous films and tv show very much. I even liked the 2013 remake so the trailer for the new movie had me bouncing about and messaging my horror friends in anticipation.
Jefe and Manda came through for me. Caro and I met them at their house today and then they drove us to the big multiplex over in Lower Hutt. It's about a half hour drive.
Or it WOULD be in normal traffic. I sat nervously in a traffic jam as the clock ticked closer and closer to 1pm when the movie was due to start. Long story short, we got there with SECONDS to spare. I gave my lovely wife a farewell kiss* and dashed into the cinema.
The movie lived up to the promise of the trailer. It was nasty, mean-minded, evil fun all the way through. I jumped and swore several times as did Jefe. Manda just laughed at us.
She's a hard woman, is Manda.
Caro was not having such a great time and sadly found nothing to buy in that whole huge shopping mall. I felt bad for her when we met up afterward. But then Jefe and Manda drove us to an Italian restaurant and we had a fun evening chatting over bruschetta and calamari.
So I had a good day. And if I may end the day on a pretentious note, I would like to quote the late horror movie director Wes Craven. He directed some of the "Scream" and "Nightmare on Elm Street" films.
He once said that people don't go to horror movies to experience fear but to release it.
I'm not sure if that's entirely true, but after a sh*tty few months I feel like I needed this film. And despite the carnage, beheadings and chainsaw murders, I felt a lot better after the evil dead rose.

* She went shopping. She didn't want to see the film. Funny that.
