Spring Camp

It’s arrived, our first nights/weekend camping each year is Spring Camp at the River Dart Country Club, normally four or five vans together on one pitch. It gives us the opportunity to ensure that the van cupboard has everything in it for extended trips when we are on our own, we also get the opportunity to meet with Mark, Mrs S’s brother and friends.

Breakfast at a farm shop on the journey out before crossing Dartmoor from the A30 towards Ashburton, beautiful scenery, truly breathtaking.

We arrived before midday to find Mark already there and in no time we had set up camp, the photograph shows the colourful clash of awnings and vans. Two, no three, bottles of beer before heading over to the main building to catch up with the organisers. They too are like old friends, we have been coming to Oktoberfest, in October of course, here for some years and Spring Camp came into being to allow for a spring half term meet up, it’s always good fun and usually memorable.
Our two pint steins marked us out as regulars and after filling them a couple of times we settled to watch Rhys from the group Bootleggers, regular performers in October, doing a solo gig, he was great. Curry, rice and naan bread for dinner before filling our steins once more and heading indoors where the music, retro disco, continued.

Then came the memorable moment, it doesn’t take much for a drunk to irritate, I know, been there done that, but this lady caused havoc.
Continually told by ‘security’ to stop dancing on top of the tables she finally slipped and knocked a heavy wooden bench over onto Mark’s foot. Lot of blood and the alcohol may have helped deaden the pain. Mrs S helped with the first aid treatment for her brother but as we turn in for the night it looks like it’s going to need looking at.
