Sant Jordi

While the rest of the world awaits Valentine’s day to celebrate love, Catalan’s most romantic day of the year is Sant Jordi, (Saint George) which coincides with the World Book Day (23rd April). It’s a day dedicated to literature and love. Local authors were down at the market with their books and roses. Daniel, our French conversation francophone and bellringer, was down there with the books he has written and one written by his late father, which describes life in a very remote Pyrenean village in the 1930s and 40s. The tradition is that a man buys a woman a rose for love and a woman buys a man a book for life. So Mrs TT gets the rose and I get the book which I am looking forward to reading.
