Tunnel-web
Tunnel-web spiders (Porrhothele antipodianna) are found throughout New Zealand, often under logs. They are related to tarantulas, and are a harmless close relative of the poisonous Australian funnel-web spider.
I really don't like spiders so felt very brave getting this close!! I certainly wasn't poking it to get the head shot - which I know would have been a better perspective.
You've no idea how hairy this fellow is.
