The end?
Today’s photo isn’t particularly good or pretty, nor was it taken today, but it is relevant.
Late last year Edinburgh’s Filmhouse cinema went into administration, since then people have tried to raise money to reopen it and staged events to show their support of the venue.
Today it’s reported that the building has been sold - possibly to a property company specialising in pubs; the bids from arts groups were too low to be considered.
It’s unclear what will happen to the building now, but it’s probably unlikely to reopen as a cinema or arts venue (I hope I’m wrong!).
Here’s to watching great movies, Film Festival screenings (and sharing an ashtray with members of Pulp in the bar ahead of such a screening!), drinks in the bar with friends, flipping through the DVDs in the lobby, the pleasing old listing brochures they used to have (and the feeling of happiness at seeing an ad I wrote in that brochure) and all the other memories of the place.
