Day 14 - Sagrada Familia, Barcelona

Tomorrow we leave Barcelona so today was a really big day. We started by vistiting Freixenet Cava Cellars (cava is Spanish sparkling wine). They have this extensive underground cellar that goes down around five floors.
On the way back we stopped off at the beachside town of Sitges for a wander around and lunch.
When we returned to the city we decided we could squeeze in a tour of the Sagrada Familia, which is a church designed by Antonio Gaudi. The church is one of the most visited buildings in the world; last year 3 million people visited it. It has been under construction for over a century. Gaudi is the most influencial architect in Barcelona and he devoted the last 40 years of his life to it before he was killed in an accident in 1926. Four years later, during the Spanish Revolution, his plans and models were all but destroyed but progress over the last three years has been significant.
The project is funded by entry fees and private donations and would not have been possible without computer design due to its complexity of shape and engineering.
We finished the day wth a paella at a place that was recommended to us by the tapas tour guide.
