There will be fruit (3)
Gooseberry flowers in the late afternoon sun, all the little hairs on petals, leaves and stems showing up. Why are gooseberries hairy? David Attenborough would undoubtedly know. In the episode of Wild Isles we watched last night, there were some sequences about the quite extraordinary pollination process used by the 'lords and ladies' plant - see this page for a short account:

So much to observe, so much to understand...
Anyway: today has been a distinctly better day for me, though a less good one for Richard. Perhaps we are taking turns with the ups and downs of covid symptoms. My big achievement was cutting the grass, in the front and back gardens. It's not a long job.... but until this morning, it felt entirely out of reach.
Thanks to everyone who's left cheery comments; I will catch up with journals as and when I emerge from the covid brain fog.
