Atlantikwall Raversyde: anti aircraft gun

We spent the afternoon visiting the only preserved German coastal battery dating from the First World War, the Aachen Battery, awarded a European Heritage Award in 2022. Next to it you will find the Saltzwedel-neu Battery, part of Marine Artillerie Abteilung (naval artillery unit) 204, and constructed in 1941-1942. The Saltzwedel-neu Battery is a textbook example of the Atlantikwall. Over 60 bunkers, observation posts and artillery positions and open or subterranean corridors constitute one of the best preserved parts of the German Atlantikwall. All on view in the Atlantikwall Raversyde provincial domain, 5 km from Ostend.
