My wonderful Year Four class produced three perfect piles of feces today, a fitting image for Timothy McVeigh. We had so much fun! We simulated the digestive process by first mashing up bread, cereal and banana in a Ziploc bag, adding water for the saliva. We then cut a hole in one corner of the Ziploc bag and squeezed the contents through a funnel (the esophagus) into a second Ziploc bag (the stomach) and added orange juice to represent gastric juices. After mashing the contents a bit more we cut another hole in the corner of the Ziploc bag and squeezed the "chyme" into the top of a lady's stocking (the small intestine.) As the chyme progressed through the small intestine, liquid (nutrients) seeped out of the tights and into a bowl (the bloodstream.) When the chyme reached the foot of the tights (the anus), we cut a hole in the foot and squeezed out the feces to create the delightful creation you now behold.
