Terracing
It is not often that we can ring 10 bells, but today we were able to with the help of our visitors. Our tower captain is 70 years old this week and he has some friends and his son coming out to ring a special peal. His son’s birthday is the same date and he will be 35 so they will attempt a long length of 7035 changes to mark the occasion. This will be difficult to achieve given that it will take somewhere in the region of four and a half hours with no one making a mistake.
There was nothing else planned for the day, so Mrs TT and I decided to drive it to the end of one of the more remote valleys and go for a walk and a picnic. We sat down below this terracing. I am always amazed at the amount of labour that was involved in these constructions by people who often had to walk miles to get there, only to produce very small strips of workable land. On the way home we called in at the UNESCO walled garrison town Villefranche . This is a real honeypot location, but there were not too many visitors today and we were able to enjoy an ice cream.
