It's taken all day for the sun to come out

The early evening sunlight sets off these your hart's tongue ferns ... although it has taken them over a month to get to this stage. Apparently the long cool (think: cold) Spring should improve apple crops as the trees haven't wasted energy coming to flower slowly - does that mean my ferns are going to take over?
