Amandine's Plot Treize

Honeysuckle

This honeysuckle was growing in a large planter in my garden and I pruned it hard back last year as it had stopped producing new growth around the base and I thought restorative pruning might help.

After a bit of editing in my garden, it turned out I had no use for it anymore so it - obviously - ended up on the plot. I initially planted it near the compost heap, thinking the rich soil would kick-start growth. But we all know the harsh summer we had, and when I saw the bare sticks in the autumn, it looked pretty dead to me!

I then moved it to the shed to give it one last chance, thinking it would be lovely if it regrew and I could train it along the shed.

And here it is now, putting on new growth long after I'd given up on him...

Unfortunately the shed needs restained (and a clear top coat) as the 3 coats I applied last year haven't withstood the elements.

I'll need to be quick to paint the shed and put up wires as honeysuckle grow very quickly! But it's a great surprise that it's come back to life. They are incredibly resilient plants.
