An Irish Atlantic Rainforest

An unexpectedly beautiful day, we headed off to Glengarriff for a lazyish wander around the woodlands, everything just greening up, We also clambered the many rough steps up to Lady Bantry's Lookout (I don't for a moment believe her Ladyship ever clambered up here) and admired the impressive view. Everywhere the wild bilberries  coming into flower.

I'm reading a very interesting book An Irish Atlantic Rainforest about a man who has bought around 72  acres on the Beara Peninsula  and is allowing what was essentially devastated land to rewild and prosper. It's a sobering, depressing, informative and uplifting read. Here in Glengarriff at the start of the Beara, the woods are managed but the central area is more or less left to its own devices and they are slowly removing non indigenous trees including the main culprit - rhododendron. 

Baked potatoes eaten and a stroll down to Kitchen Cove taken with a spot of errant skimming, and we are now chilling.
