Can I show you an abandoned long-tailed tit nest?

You can imagine.

Don't you just adore the tail poking out the back?  I don't know if that's an unfinished part of the nest or a design feature.

I crept off quietly. This is something I've wanted to see for a long time - made my day. 

They've chosen a place very close to a busy path which must be good to avoid predators and the leaves a growing quickly so hopefully not many people will notice. The woman who showed me had been watching the building process (I think they take about a month) and hadn't seen any recent activity so she'd assumed they'd been disturbed and left.

It's actually got building material in its beak so I'm guessing it's onto weaving the final touches.
