Native Plants at Crissy Field

Crissy Field Park runs for miles at the foot of the Golden Gate.

It was transformed starting in 2001 from a former military airfield into a vibrant environmental showcase. Today, it is a stunning place to walk or bike on a flat, hard-packed promenade with iconic views of the Bay and Golden Gate Bridge. A beautiful, trail winds through tidal marsh overlooks where I took this shot.

Park stewards from The Native Plant Nursery Program here, work to restore and preserve the native ecology. Over 1 million seeds are collected each year. These seeds are used to propagate over 400 of the 622 species native to the park.

This year alone, the Nurseries will be propagating about 270,000 plants throughout the 75,000 acres of parkland.

Had the most wonderful day yesterday with my family and looking forward to another.
