Temples tour

Carys and I had a day trip to see three, very different, temples. It was booked as a small group tour, but it ended up being a private tour as we were the only ones booked on.

First was the Dragon temple, up in limestone caves. Very different to any temple I have been in. Only two other tours there when we were there so it was calm and quiet unlike Wats in Bangkok.

From there we went to a more traditional Wat in so far as it's architecture, but it's main complex sat separate to the stoopa. The main complex being in the village and the stoopa being at the top of the mountain/hill. It supposedly houses a tooth of Lord Buddha. It also has a huge statue of Buddha across the hill from the stoopa and a large statue of a Chinese god to whom the Thais in the area also pay respects.

A stop for a Thai lunch which was delicious and then on to the third temple. Very different in style and a very large complex. Here we both had our fortune read using the bamboo sticks and we washed the statue of Lord Buddha in anticipation of luck for the coming year on the eve of Song Kran.

Because there were only two of us we finished earlier than expected so our guide asked if we would like to see the local waterfalls in the National Park so we had an added extra.

A really good tour and one that made us feel like we had seen some of Thailand rather than just the hotel and it's surrounds.
