Still winter here…

It fell about the Martinmas,
Quhen the wind blew shril and cauld,
Said Edom O’ Gordon to his men,
"We maun draw till a hauld.

"And quhat a hauld sall we draw till,
My mirry men and me?
We wul gae to the house o’ the Rodes,
To see that fair ladìe.

The Castle was built in the 16th century as a home for the Forbes family and the ballad was written at the same time. In the 17th century it became a barracks and later was involved in the production of whisky, providing support for excise men.

Today the wind blew ‘shrill and could’ and snow was lying on the road so I came back to Spring and the Strath!
