Finished this fine second volume of Mr Ashton’s main quartet just as Joe Biden passed through still union-blighted Belfast en route to warmer more relaxing meetings further south. An interesting fit from Gladstone, Rosebery and even Disraeli across the centuries back to Kings William and James and forward to Charles Battenberg SCG and the lesser players of our days. But truths remain, whether Johnson or Sunak, re trust, where the English are involved….
