The aviary in Cannizaro Park, Wimbledon

As I had some time to spare before an appointment I decided to pay a brief visit to Cannizaro Park in Wimbledon to see the spring flowers there. I’ve not visited for a couple of years so was sad to see that the aviary no longer has any birds in it as apparently it needs serious repairs. It was built in 1976 in the Gothic style. A notice board said it was in the style of Turin cathedral but having looked that up I can not see the resemblance! However apparently a new aviary will be rebuilt in 2024 and in the meantime the birds have been safely housed elsewhere and there is a changing Art display in the aviary with some 3D models, supplied on a rota from local schools.

There were lots of lovely cherry trees in full bloom that had been planted just a few years ago. The tulips were not yet out.

Warning lights came in on my car on the way home……instructions in the handbook said drive slowly to a garage. I did this and the car is now there awaiting first aid! I think it is a timing issue and the spark plugs need sorting out. I’m just glad it did not happen on a motorway.

Such changeable weather all day with lots of showers and some very fierce wind
