Song Thrush
Today's the day .................... to sing
Although it was getting dark and this song thrush was quite a way away, there was no mistaking that that's what it was.
He was singing his heart out at the top of a tall tree - repeating little phrases over and over in his mellifluous chant. The poet Robert Browning got it exactly right when he wrote in his poem, Home thoughts from abroad -
'......That's the wise thrush; he sings each song twice over,
Lest you should think he never could recapture
The first fine careless rapture.'
You can hear a song thrush singing here - and it's worth having a listen because it will fill your heart with joy ......................!
