Allotment 2022 onwards

By misetak

Best before...

First job of the day was sorting out the contents of the spice cupboard.  I was expecting a few things to be out of date, but these were taking it further than I had expected!!
The home gardener spent most of the day scarifying the lawn with his new toy, an electric scarifier.  When I asked for the clipping, I wasn't expecting two bulk bags full, but I'm not going to turn down green matter for the plot and I now know I can fit almost one full bulk bag in a VW Up! if you decant some of the contents into IKEA bags.
The main project of the afternoon (see the extra) was planting the second early potatoes, Nicola and Acoustic, but I'm not sure if it counts as planting when you just put them on the surface and then cover them with 4 inches of those grass cuttings!  I am using Charles Dowding's spacing, so just 8 potatoes for each variety in a 2 x 1.25 m space and putting the spares in pots for comparison.  The no dig potatoes are underway.  :-)
I managed to rake together a couple of barrows of woodchip for the bit of border I cleared yesterday, so that just needs compost now.  With the temperatures beginning to soar, I may need to dig out some of the summer allotment clothes.  I really wasn't expecting 40C already in the polytunnel.
