The Middle Ages

Metal Education

When chatting with my fellow metalhead friends, I've realised I was really quite late to the genre, really only starting to buy heavy rock and metal music from the early to mid 90s. Even then I came via grunge, industrial and nu metal rather than the more traditional fare.

They have challenged me to educate myself in some of the classics, so I started that process today by giving 3 listens to each of the following albums: Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Judas Priest - Painkiller. The Sabbath album was enjoyable and about what I expected. Judas Priest surprised me - I didn't think I'd like them but I really did. Once I got past the acquired taste of Rob Halford's vocals, I found them fast, heavy and really enjoyable. Will definitely check out more of their back catalogue.

I still have a long way to go with this history lesson - it's an ongoing project. Today's blip is a collection of old tickets I've dug out this evening - I picked the ones that represent my own personal introduction to the world of live heavy music.
