In the spring a young man's fancy lightly turns..!

Ooh La La! At first she was looking a bit coy, preening herself carefully, and he was looking hopeful...then all of a sudden there was action, Wham! Bang! Then it was all over and she sent him packing! (You'll see though that during "the act" they modestly turned away from the camera.)
 
We were so pleased to see the coots at Killingworth Lake, making a new nest and clearly getting ready to raise some chicks again after last year's absence.
 
A few minutes later we spotted the resident heron, closer to the road than usual so I didn't need my long lens. We spent about half an hour watching it and waiting. The first extra shows it in expectant mode, but unfortunately at the moment it caught a fish it was half hidden behind some vegetation. It took it a moment to swallow what was quite a sizeable catch!
