Local lanes, pools and tree frogs

After a fairly full-on day, it was good to have a rather more gentle jaunt round the local lanes today. Some travellers opted to have a day off, enjoying the beach and local tavernas, while several others just joined us for a morning walk.

The rest of us had a really rather lovely stroll along lanes rich with orchids including the rather chunky Eastern Tongue-orchid, and arable fields with masses of Field Gladiolus and a whole range of other wild plants including the dramatically coloured Spicate Venus's Looking-glass.

After a picnic lunch on scented hummocks of Mediterranean Wild Thyme, we headed to some rock pools where we finally found a Savigny's Tree Frog nestled in the cleft of a rock. These could be heard calling around the hotel every night but were very hard to see!

We headed to the coast, where there were lots more rocks with a different range of species. I made the mistake of stepping backwards while trying to photograph a tiny plant, and took a tumble. Thankfully I was wearing trousers, which protected my skin from the razor sharp rocks.

We arrived back at the hotel about 3.30 and after a shower, I joined Philip and Phil in the bar for a cool and well-deserved beer and chat.
