Single parent family. :-(

Managed to sneak up on one of our moorhens sitting on the nest this morning and snapped it through the reeds. Sadly, our neighbour told us that he thinks he found the remains of the other moorhen in his garden at the weekend.

I've watched the moorhens for three years now, working so well together to look after their little ones as is the case with most birds that I've observed. I'm sure I'm not imagining that this moorhen looked completely dejected today. I hope it can survive on its own, especially when the eggs hatch.
