The church with the blue door
What weather we had today! Heavy black skies, rain, hail, then blue skies and sunshine, then the cycle would repeat. I never knew what to photograph as every time I looked out the window the skies were changing yet again.
I had a busy day today and on my return from the hairdresser I noticed this beautiful Gothic church - I have seen it many times before but today I stopped and went to have a look at it and to take some photos. It is St Peter's Church in Walton-on-the-Hill in Surrey. A church has stood on this site for over 700 years, and the present church is as a result of a major rebuilding in 1820. I particularly like it's blue door.
I was feeling tired today after going out last night to see the movie The Great Gatsby. I seldom go out in the week - how boring is that? The movie has had mixed reviews but I enjoyed it. Apart from the opening scene the movie follows the book very closely, even down to all the famous quotes including the last paragraph of the book that has had literary scholars divided as to it's meaning
'Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter - tomorrow we will run faster, stretch our arms further...And one fine morning - So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.'
What I enjoyed about the book is its subtlety, and how Fitzgerald implies certain things - Baz Luhrman however, is anything but subtle, and the movie is a kaleidoscope of colour and sound with many things emphasized excessively...like the green light. Personally I did not enjoy the 3D effect as I found the people looked a bit distorted, but everyone else did enjoy this effect. So go see it and decide for yourself. The dresses are gorgeous!
