Potsdam
Beautiful sunny day and perfect for our planned trip out to the palaces of Potsdam. Gorgeous! Rococo isn’t really my thing but the settings and craft work, especially the wooden parquet floors and marquetry on the furniture, were stunning and the park was beautiful. Had a delicious brunch in a lovely glass house, wandered through the various palaces and enjoyed the gardens with their carefully built terraces ready to catch the sun on fruit and the vineyard.
We wandered through the town on our way back, where the historic centre had been beautifully restored and we enjoyed listening to the organ in the majestic but simply decorated church. (See Laura’s blip for more detail….I’m having to do this quickly on my phone as the photos are being tardy in syncing with my iPad!)
Back on the train and having found one restaurant closed down we walked via the dance shoe shop to another-fabulous setting and ambience in the 100 yr old ballroom. Delicious food once again…. I still felt full from brunch so had pickled herrings and charred lettuce hearts with cheese, with some of Laura’s lovely beetroot and apple, plus another pint of lovely local beer.
Walked home-12 miles today!
