Canjilon Hill & stepped mesas

This is in the San Felipe Volcanic field, which is a monogenetic field that begins just North of Bernalillo. Not selected on the basis of artistic merit, though I like the picture, but because it is of some of the coolest parts of New Mexico. This is just north of Bernalillo on the west side of the Rio Grande. The funny little hill in the lower left is Canjilon Hill, an old volcanic maar. The stepped mesas were once a continuous volcanic flood basalt that has faulted repeatedly. It is incredible beautiful. Somewhere out in the picture is the Angostura water control structure (somewhat north of Canjilon Hill - north is to the right in the photo).

Today, I give thanks for the day I was given, the very naughty dog, who about got left on the mesa after he fell instantly in love with a coyote and wouldn't get back in the car, black and white photography, and teeth that seem to be healing.
