The process of self-pruning

Our clinical notes are now saved as an electronic clinical record. Prescriptions are now written within that same system, and are sent to the pharmacy of the patient's choice by email. Today, the programme malfunctioned repeatedly. I finally gave up trying to send a prescription to a pharmacy, packed my bag and came home. Ample time to have a walk along the lower pipeline.

I liked this photo the best; it shows a small branch which is being denied nutrients by the Kauri tree. The leaves have dried and gone orange instead of green. Near the base of this small branch are the remnants of where a previous branch had been. 

Kauri protect themselves by shedding unwanted branches, leaving fairly minimal evidence that there was once such a branch.
