Covid Day Five

Today’s Blip - the morning steroid tablets I had after my breakfast. Food is now all but tasteless to me. Covid is a bleepety bleep on top of fibromyalgia, joint hypermobility syndrome and asthma.

Thankfully, this evening I managed to taste a bit of tinned Chicken Broth and a pear as well as a Lemon Drizzle Border biscuit. Lunch was Macaroni Cheese but it tasted of very little and I felt I was chewing rubber! I’ve had copious amounts of honey and have drank a lot of water - I’m really good at drinking water so that hasn’t been a hardship.

I had to ring the GP this morning as my coughing had just got to the unbearable stage. Diagnosis? A chest infection on top of the Covid which I suspected.

Having been an acute asthmatic since I was 14 years of age (it got worse in my early to mid 20s), I knew the signs. It’s a shame I couldn’t get through to NHS24 over the weekend. The joys of the fractured, limping NHS. However, I remain incredibly grateful for it and for free prescriptions in Scotland.

I have been prescribed a course of antibiotics and tomorrow is the last day on the steroids. They help my breathing but unfortunately have a lot of negative side effects. They certainly affect my mood.

I must admit I had a very exhausted, fatigued self-pitying weep to myself this morning due to a combination of overwhelm, chronic pain, the Covid, the chest infection, the steroids (how up and down they make you feel) and extreme sleep deprivation.

It took me until 4pm to collect the antibiotics as the fibromyalgia and everything has just floored me, the Covid coughing has been off the scale. I thought the pleurisy I suffered in my late 20s was Hell but the Covid is utter Hell, it really is.

I managed to put a load of laundry on, rest and pace a little bit better than normal, text back friends and listen to some music this evening. My eyes were too strained and tired to watch anything as I didn’t sleep until almost 4am and was awake at 7am.

It’s been a very long day. At least it was sunny if a little chilly here with no rain and I did some Duolingo German tonight (back to Day 3 as lost my revision streak). Top three in the Ruby League. I really adore the German language.

I was also very happy to hear that an old English  teaching colleague and mentor of mine is launching a collection of his poetry (he is a published poet of many years) in May.

I have saw the cover and it looks intriguing. I hope to be well enough to go along and support him as he did I many moons ago. I’m still slowly working my way through the collection he sent me some weeks ago and very much enjoying it.

Thanks for all your kind comments, stars and hearts for my regular ginger feline visitor yesterday . I haven’t spotted him today, guess he is more pee’d off about the lack of Dreamies than I had thought! :p

He’ll be back!

A lemon verbena tea tonight before bed. Fingers crossed for less coughing overnight as my ribs ache xx
