At the Greenpeace 'Warm this winter' demo
Sally A. asked me if I'd take some pictures at the Greenpeace demonstration, called 'Warm this winter’, outside our MP’s office in the town centre. It was to be part of a national day of campaigning to encourage the Government to extend help with the cost of fuel payments.
Our MP, Siobhan Baillie, had apparently declined to respond to any communications about the issue or arrange a meeting to discuss supporting it. So the local Greenpeace group and several other local organisations asked people from our community to come and have their say outside her office.
Helena came with me and stood with a placard. I bustled about and took a range of pictures for them to use on social media, and a local freelance photographer came to supply images for one of our local newspapers. Simon P. is a very good and well known local photographer. We had a good chat about how photographers make a living in these tricky days where media outlets have changed enormously and cameras are ever present. These are difficult times for him with a family to support. I wish him well.
It poured with heavy rain right up to the time the demo was supposed to begin and I fear it kept attendance numbers down. then the rain halted. It was good to be involved and to help a worthwhile cause once again.
UPDATE:
Apparently the MP has agreed to meet the group in six weeks time in mid-May!
One of my pics was used in a letter to the Editor in a good local paper, the Stroud Times.
