Large and Small
We went to Byron Bay today for a medical appointment. Whilst there, we visited a plant nursery we'd not been to before. It's called Eden, as in Garden of ... I imagine. We enjoyed it, and will return.
Byron Bay is 20 km north of us. It's a popular tourist destination, and has some of the most expensive coastal real estate in Australia. Despite that, the roads are inadequate, congested and in poor condition. The reason - Byron residents are mainly either backpackers or millionaires. The backpackers earn little money in Australia and so pay no taxes. The millionaires earn heaps, but avoid paying taxes. Outcome - inadequate public infrastructure. The problem is not unique to Byron Bay.
