Cardboard Sand

For Day 3 of the Nature Workshop we headed over to St Bees on the West Coast of Cumbria. The morning was spent watching gulls and guillemots nesting at St Bee'sHead, however I couldn't complete with the 400mm to 600mm long lens owned by some of the group - though I manage a gull doing a meerkat impression. The guillmot colony was amazing, with 1000s of birds huddled together on ledges in the face of the sandstone cliff.

The afternoon saw us on the beach with instructions to look for out for textures in the sand and rocks (or more birds for those so inclined). I observed this wonderful sand formation looking which reminded people of corrugated cardboard.
