Cancelled

The Davistown Putt Putt Regatta should have been held today. Sadly it had to be cancelled due to torrential rain. As the organisers put it: ‘We did say we would go ahead rain, hail or shine. We did not say torrential downpours. 115mm fell this morning between 5am and 10am in Davistown. And it's still falling. The forecast yesterday was for 1 to 6mm, most likely in the middle of the day. We had no hope of predicting this one’.
 
When I walked down to the jetty this afternoon there was little sign of the abandoned regatta or the wooden boats. Just a deserted marquee and some portaloos. The birds in the flooded park were happy, though.
 
We feel so sad for the organisers, to think of the amount of time and energy that went into organising this local community event.
