Sewing Machine

What else? It has been occupying me most of the time lately. Between the early arrival of my niece and the almost constant rain, I am grateful to have something to do inside. The quilt is almost finished and if spring doesn't make an appearance soon, I may just contemplate pulling the covers over my head and staying in bed....

I even found it to be a bit of a challenge to get to a 9am Pilates class this morning, but was glad, as always, that I made the effort, especially since the teacher's schedule has changed and it was my last 9am class with her. She will be teaching a yoga/Pilates combination on Tuesday which sounds very appealing, but would require some cajoling and shifting.

Does anybody remember the Tom Lehrer song called the Merry Minuet? If you don't, here it is sung by the KIngston Trio. I'm sure we saw it performed at the Hungry i in San Francisco in the '60's, and it is one of those odd things that sticks in your memory even when you can't remember what you had for dinner last night. I still can recite the lyrics, and even, if prompted, sing it in its entirety. Although it is certainly prophetic,  and  even though I was a veteran of the Free Speech Movement at Cal and many a Vietnam war protest, assassinations and war in Israel, I thought it was funny in those days. Now that I am old and have lived through  countless protests of different wars,  the Bush and Trump presidencies and the chaos they have wrought, I don't find it so funny. Times have changed, but it seems that human nature hasn't.
