District 6 and The Bo-Kaap

What an interesting day we had in Cape Town today.  We started off with a visit to the very moving District 6 Museum -- founded as a memorial to the 60,000 residents of various races in District 6 during Apartheid whose homes were bulldozed to make way for a designated "Whites Only" neighbourhood.  These poor people were uprooted and scattered to a Cape Flats township some 25 kilometers away.

We were then taken on a tour of the Bo-Kaap, formerly known as the Malay Quarter, where we admired beautiful, brightly coloured houses, mosques, and a wonderful spice market.  Afterwards, we were treated to the most delicious Cape Malay  lunch prepared by the mother of our tour guide, and served in their lovely shaded garden.  Then on to a look through the Zeitz MOCAA Museum of Contemporary African Art before walking back to our ship.
