Lots of firsts.....

Glad to have a ringside seat for Humza's first speech as leader  and relieved  that the long five and a bit weeks of the campaign is now over - a period which has not been without its (well publicised) difficulties.

Lots of first from him and for him, and more as the week progresses and he is hopefully  elected (tomorrow) as Scotland's First Minister.

We shared a mentor and friend, the late Bashir Ahmed, who was Scotland's first Moslem MSP and an inspiration to many.    My extra photo is of Bashir and I during the 2004 leadership contest (the last one)  , in which I was a candidate.
