My birthday began with the water -
Birds and the birds of the winged trees flying my name
Above the farms and the white horses
And I rose
In rainy autumn
And walked abroad in a shower of all my days.

Those lines are from a poem that Dylan Thomas wrote that for his 30th birthday. Mine is 61. Probably I read that poem when I was 16 and though I do not remember much of my schoolboy poetry, I have always remembered those last three lines.
