Beaded dandelion...

The day started with a damp morning walk along the river. Pete and I had planned to go out and do the first part of our annual monitoring visit to some land next to the East Coast mainline, but had to wait until the afternoon, to allow time for the vegetation to dry up a bit. However, it didn't improve as much as we'd hoped and our survey was carried out under grey clouds, with a fresh northerly breeze blowing across the very exposed site. Despite wearing a fleece, I ended up chilled to the bone, and had to have a hot bath when I got home. Unsurprisingly, Pete caught very few insects, though he did see three grizzled skipper butterflies feeling very sorry for themselves!
