The Fortress House

It would probably be more polite to call it a cliff house, but it really does look a bit like a fortress, especially from the other side where it is clear how close to the edge of the cliff it is perched. I took this picture from our top terrace so it doesn't look quite as looming as it does from our living room windows. Careful inspection will show the well in front of the front door and the six foot drop to the ground where the stairs presumably will be. We saw guys carrying heavy stuff up a board that was placed from the doorstep to the ground although lately they have been walking up the dirt and around the back of the house.

It's been another clear sunny day with a stiff cold wind blowing. We took Spike on the short circuit as we were tricked into setting out without our warm jackets. We noticed the lights on in the bunker house above us last night and today there were two cars in the driveway and the for sale sign was gone. Our speculations regarding this development are that either somebody bought it or that it has new realtors trying to sell it. The former seems unlikely since there has been no sign of a moving van or even furniture delivery.

John took himself off to the urgent care clinic to see if he can get a tetanus shot after cutting his finger with a chisel yesterday. Knowing that the chisel probably belonged to his father, and was therefore probably old and rusty I suggested a tetanus shot might be in order, especially since he can't remember when his last one was. I see, however that he is back again, far too soon to have accomplished his mission, so I suspect the clinic either isn't there anymore or has closed for the day.

Our neighbor Ann is back from South Africa and she and Paul are coming over for a glass of wine and some chat soon. I imagine she will have some stories about the flight which was over (through?) some pretty rough weather...the weather that was blowing trees down here and dumping snow in the Sierra and across the country.
