Book Smart?

I took this pic to remember the name of the book and author. I will have to read it for one of my classes. It makes me wonder, how much can one learn about teaching from a book? On the other hand, even the most intuitive teacher can use a hand, otherwise this teaching business is a lot like shooting darts in the dark. So there has to be a balance of doing and reading, I suppose. Doing mostly, I think, but reading can offer some shortcuts and explanations of what's going on.
