Migration

The Bar-tailed Godwit have taken the opportunity to take a break on their migration north towards the Arctic where they breed.
They are one of world's longest migrants. Last Autumn, a young bird of this species set off from Alaska on 13 October and flew 13,560 km to Tasmaina. Satellite data appeared to show it did not stop during its marathon flight which took 11 days and one hour. Quite a flight!
