Grand
This was perhaps the high point weather wise of the day, as we saw less blue sky the rest of it, but it was certainly warm and spring was in the air even when the clouds looked more threatening.
After a brief stop in Portobello to have a browse in the Velvet Easel gallery we drove down to Kelso to the Borders Art Fair. Met up with A there (N has Covid) and we browsed round it then had coffee and a brownie before another go around and this time S bought two nice pieces…a lemon still life original and a lovely abstract print.
A wee wander around Kelso followed…struck by the number of florists all bursting with bouquets ready for collection for Mother’s Day tomorrow.
From there came home and walked down to town to see the new Cos shop open (bought a dress because the queue to try on was too long…but it was much less flattering than I expected when I got it home so it will need to go back).
Wandered around the new Street Food Centre at the back of the Omni Centre and shared a shredded duck confit burger and chips and a Thai fish cake baobun with some smashed cucumber salad. Efficient set up and tasty….and there was a very wide choice of food outlets.
Went to see the new film Allelujah! Although it had some good moments and a great cast it wasn’t a good film. Richard Eyre had added a weird campaigning Covid based ending to Alan Bennet’s original script and it just seemed insubstantial and a bit unsubtle. Nevertheless there were enough good bits to keep us mildly amused and then we came home for a cup of tea and a chance to watch another film at home. Started on the French film of the book group book for Monday The Mad Women’s Ball but the dubbing was irritating so we gave up on that and watched some nonsense called Book Club. Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda and others of their vintage (all showing the effects of considerable ‘work’ having been done!). Predictable but amusing nonsense, but I always like looking at Diane Keaton’s dress style, which seems to be the same regardless of what part she’s playing!
