Night Watchman, Dublin Docks
Summer evenings, the intoxicating earthy greeny smells have made themselves at home. I am glad I decided on impulse to take a late drive out to the docks again and see what gave. The place was all but deserted, as I expected. But always there is that sense (and noise) of heavy industry mixed with a poignant run-down, partial abandonment (the tall old warehouses, the cobbles, the spine of the disused railway...).
I met this guy at the ferry port. He was happy to let me take a photograph. When I talked about what I was doing he understood readily enough. The spirit had crept over him too, naturally enough, given his work.
