Messalani

This underground lake, now open to the sky due to a roof fall in the 1950's. contains brackish water. Sea water has travelled 14km from the west of the island through a series of underground limestone caves; it has mixed with fresh water that has seeped through from the water table. The pool is at its deepest ~35m and the water is so clear you can see the base of the cave in most places where the sunlight can reach. We caught the local bus to visit this spot. I was a real treat.
