Big birthday

You can’t quite make out the shape of the dancing helium balloons in the background, but the Ards Man’s mum celebrated her 95th birthday yesterday. Perhaps ‘celebrated’ is too strong a word, as you can see from the photo that she is looking a tad nonplussed. The AM’s sister is in the photo here, too.

It was good to visit her in company with others, her twin nieces were there for the jollities too, as it meant there were folk to talk to. Unfortunately granny is quite trapped in her dementia now and doesn’t recognise us or understand why anyone would come to visit.

The nursing home where she lives now (she has been there for almost a year) is really great and had bought her a huge bouquet of flowers and provided a fab cake for the ‘party’. Getting old is not for the faint hearted.
